I had heard of Imbiss and its amazing grills and sausages and so when I was in Mumbai for a day, I thought I would quickly drop in there for a good pork filled treat. Thank god for Google maps who is a trusted companion and who guided me to the doorsteps of this tiny 8-seater oink café, which could compete for the smallest eatery in the world.

I had gone there with my little sister, also an enthusiastic pork lover. We study the menu in great detail and end up ordering most of the menu. The starting point for all good things is sausage and bacon, which is our order for the starters. Pork Bratwurst with bacon (Rs 225) and homemade potato wedges announces to us that small this place could be in terms of size, when it came to taste, it is a biggie. The pork is crisp, the bacon is fried just right and the wedges are among the best I have had.

Next was an equally delicious Duck sausage with slaw and mustard (Rs 205) which I decide to pair with fried duck egg (Rs 35). The sausage dipped in the yolk made for a great bite.

Smoked Pork fat and rind (Rs 225) is from the pork shoulder and given the amount of fat, I pair it with world’s spiciest chilly or bhut jolokia pickle (Rs 55) hoping it would cut through the fat. It does not help because the dish has no real reason of existence, either in taste or texture. The bhoot jolokia of course is still talking to my stomach as I write about this food experience.

Our meaty madness continues, and the next dish is also great. Baby back spare ribs (Rs 445) arrive in a huge plate and are meaty deliciousness. Hungarian goulash (Rs 130) is comforting but the beef chunks inside are hard and chewy taking the fun out of the dish.

The best dish and the one that will make me keep going back to Imbiss is served last. Bavarian meatloaf (Rs 205) topped with a fried duck egg is poetic when it comes to both textures and taste. It is a highly recommended dish.

I really wish Gurgaon had a place like Imbiss. It is a café that has a lot to offer at prices that are most reasonable. Its matchbox size does not prevent its diners to bite big into the delicious dishes here.
