Its exciting to see Gurgaon’s online delivery scene maturing and the new entrants introducing cuisines as diverse as Korean and Vietnamese with a focus on healthy food. The latest is Fig, started by Manish Yadav last year, introducing healthy meal options. In his words, his vision is to – “ Serve simple meals, made with fresh and seasonal locally sourced produce, cook it in a healthier manner and deliver it faster than a pizza”.

Currently the menu is small but very interesting. Packaging is simple and neat and effective. I hate it when I have to wade through three layers of paper to find my food. The first dish is a Korean dish, Gochuchang Chicken with Brown Rice (Rs 310). Gochuchang is a fermented Korean paste made with red chilies. The chicken has been cooked perfectly, the Gochuchang flavoured gravy is delicious and the radish pickle is interesting. The brown rice though considered a healthier alternative doesn’t work for me as it doesn’t soak up the thin gravy. I request Manish to add some short grained white rice as an option too here which may work better tastewise.

The next dish is a Chicken Goi with Nuoc Cham (Rs 320), a Vietnamese chicken bowl with poached and shredded chicken with veggies. The chicken is very flavoursome along with crunchy beans, carrots, cucumber, salad leaves etc and a fiery Nuoc Cham dip. Its rare to have a dish high on health quotient and still taste so good. To make this a complete, filling meal by itself, maybe Fig should have an option to add a handful of rice noodles.

Balsamic Mushroom Panini (Rs 210) would have been good on its own, the bread is soft, filling is nice with balsamic flavours coming through but here its overshadowed by the other two dishes. It’s a good Panini but not exceptional.

I also received a sample of Chocolate brownies. These were fresh & gooey and they disappear in a flash.

Overall Im impressed and wish they expand the menu and add non-chicken options in Non-Veg. There is a wealth of healthy food especially in Oriental and Mediterranean cuisine and I would be surely interested to see how they will keep their taste with health promise intact.
