Situated at Mapusa on the Goa-Mumbai highway, Spice Goa is the best Hindu Goan restaurant I have eaten in. The distinctively spiced Goan dishes making use of fish caught nearby each and every morning, makes it a treat to enjoy.
The star here is the fish thali which has a piece of freshly cooked fish, Tisreos (shellfish),and vegetables, accompanied with rice and sol kadi with a delicious dish made from dried prawns.

All seafood prices here vary as per size and season.

Among the starters, Banana Prawns are similar yet not similar to the Parsi and Bengali Patrani or Paturi, which basically means prawns cooked wrapped in a banana leaf. Chilly Chicken (Rs 260) is Spice Goa’s own interpretation of the Indian Chinese dish.

The Pomfret Fry, Rawa Fried Red Snapper are fresh as they can be and delicious.

Tandoori Crab is very fresh and Sol Kadi is nicely balanced.

Serradura is a Portuguese dessert made up of sweetened, vanilla whipped cream and serradura. Apparently, ‘serradura’ translates to ‘sawdust’ in Portuguese. And the ‘sawdust’ in this dessert is actually crushed Marie Biscuits. This dessert is a must to end the meal with.
This restaurant is a must visit place for anyone wanting to have great and authentic Goan meal, much better than all those tourist trap restaurants. It has to be. After all it is the local residents’ choice, evident from how they keep this place full up all 12 months of the year.
