Chef Ananda Solomon started original Thai Pavilion for Taj President in the early 90s. Before the launch he spent many months across Thailand experiencing and studying its cuisine and culture. The elements of sourness, saltiness, bitterness and sweetness drive Thai food, and make the food here quite a treat.

The interiors of the restaurant, though not very ornate, are pretty. The place looks distinctly Asian, with the wooden wall with chiseled work, and the beautiful ceiling. The menu surely is exotic with all the delicacies from sea and land well represented.

We start the lunch with the popular Thai salad, Som Tam Papaya Salad (Rs 850) which is competently made. The next starter is the exotic and rare in Gurgaon, Poo Nim Krob (crispy soft shell crabs, Rs 1650) which in fritter form is a treat.

The best of them all is Pla Rad Prik (Fried Fish with Chili Sauce, Rs 1100) which captures Thailand in a bite with its sweet, sour, spicy, crisp outside and soft inside fish.

In the mains, we start with Yang Chin Pe or Lamb chops in a piquant sauce (Rs 1450) which are cooked well and enjoyable.

Hoy Shell Plaa or Stir Fried Scallops (Rs 1100) are simply delicious and a must have dish. It is evident from the way we wipe the dish clean in seconds. Pad Se Jee, Homemade Flat Noodles (Rs 750) are much broader than the pad thai noodles and most enjoyable to eat.

Thai Pavilion is an ideal place for a celebration meal or an indulgent treat. With a nice décor and great food, what more can one ask for?
