I am out on office work and feeling hungry. Also I am suddenly in the mood for some good Bengali food. Since I am already in the vicinity of CR Park, I open my zomato app to see the options around. There is the usual Ma Tara and another place called City of Joy at Alaknanda. Mapping it on google maps, I am soon there, along with my colleagues. At hindsight, I regret not going to Ma Tara as the food here consistently refuses to hit the spot.

The interiors are dimly lit, in a windowless room. Not a very appetizing setting, given that it is afternoon time. Me and my colleagues, one of whom is pure vegetarian, start with Rui Bhaja (Rs 270) and Begun Bhaja (Rs 80). Rui bhaja has been seriously fried to the extent of it being over fried, while the more robust baingan is fried just right.

Next come Bhetki Paturi (Rs 220, half plate) which is delicious and Rui Jhol (Rs 175) which is not. It does not have the clear jhol that is so essential in a good rui jhol.

Our vegetarian colleague chooses to have Dum Aloo (Rs 110, half plate) with Koraishutir Kachuri (Rs 125) which is no better.

We end the meal with Kosha Mangsho (Rs 240) with Luchi (Rs 130) and Kacha Aam Chutney (Rs 140). The mutton is tough and undercooked and the chutney has been made with ripe rather than unripe mangoes making it too sweet.

The comforting and tasty Mishti Doi (Rs 70) is a small consolation in an otherwise disappointing meal. Really wish there wsas some good Bengali restaurant in NCR..
