Disappointing Taste of Nepal
Restaurant: Cafe Lungta

THE REVIEW WAS ANONYMOUSLY DONE AFTER PAYING FOR THE MEAL.

Lungta has long been on my list of restaurants to be tried in Gurgaon, after having read many good reviews about this place. So after getting an unexpected office holiday today, I drag Shivendu to come with me here for a lunch. In overall terms, we did not enjoy the lunch and felt let down at Gurgaon foodie reviews!
At the end of the review we firmly told the serving staff that we were not at all happy with the service and so will not pay service charges. They have obviously had this situation in the past because they removed it by putting a 10% discount on the bill.
The interiors here are darkish and bare, and the serving staff is certainly not glad to see us going by the absence of any hint of a smile on their faces. We settle in and do what is expected of us when we go to any Nepalese or North Eastern eatery – order thukpa and momos of course.

The Pork Thukpa (Rs 250) is easily the most underwhelming one that I have had, with pork tougher than leather. When we complained to the grouchy serving staff, he, after duly checking with the cook, came back and shrugged that this is how thukpa is and nothing can be done about it. I tried to explain to him that this is not the first time we have had thukpas and other north eastern restaurants that do not have such tough meat, but I had clearly lost the audience.

Darjeeling Momo Pork (Rs 225) are like small tingmos stuffed with pork. They are competent, though the pork is a tad dry. Momocha Pork (Rs 300) on the other hand is good momos, the way they should be.

Bhutun (Rs 250) which is sliced meat stir fried is also crisp and enjoyable – an ideal chakhna.

                                         Bhutun

Sel Roti Thali (Rs 350) Thakali is an interesting assortment of tough curried meat, piro alu dum, mooli achaar, pyaz tamatar ko achaar, black dal and some other dishes I don’t understand but find them nice with rice roti with a missing centre.

While Lungta is an interesting concept, it is severly let down by poor quality of meat and pork, as well as poor, slow service. If at all you go here, just stick to Momocha, Bhutun and a vegetarian Sel Roti Thali.
