I am at home in Mumbai enjoying the comfort and awesome food of home. I was catching up with a couple of friends at Andheri, when one of the friends suggested that we lunch at this quaint restaurant with a real mean Shutki Maachh. Always open to new food adventures, I did not think twice before saying aye.

The restaurant has worked hard to look quaint and has tons of bengaliness overflowing its walls, which are covered with famous Bengali personalities, and the expected “aikla chalo re” playing softly. A sprinkling of Bengali diners completes the picture.

The lunch starts with a delicious machher matha diye mooger dal (Rs 210) with steamed rice (Rs 100). Another tasty dish is the spongy chitol machher muitha (Rs 320).

The much talked about shutki mach (Rs 225) does not disappoint. It has a fiery distinct taste, which is not everyone’s up of tea, but I enjoy it to its fullest. 

Dhokar dalna (Rs 225) is underspiced and mutton kausha (Rs 435) with luchi (4; Rs 120) is ordinary.

The dessert to end it all, kheer patishapta (Rs 135) is atrocious. 

I definitely would go back for the shutki mach, dal and chitol.  Recommended if you are in the area.
