If there is one thing that Gurgaon has a surfeit of, it is places delivering your standard dal makhni - shahi paneer - butter chicken combo. It seems to be Gurgaon citizen’s favourite especially when it comes to soaking up all the alcohol after a drunken evening. So when my friend Rituu Memani, the proprietor of Atara Hotel and For Foodies delivery service tells me she is sending me her food to sample, I get moderately excited.

The food comes professionally packed at the appointed hour. It has a combination of some typical Indian dishes and some Chinese ones. I start with the Indian section. Non veg kabab sampler (Rs 390) has some fish tikka which is among the best I have had in Gurgaon, a tasty murgh malai tikka and a not too impressive seekh kabab. Bhuna Gosht (Rs 315) is rich enough to be delicious.

Daal makhni (Rs 215) is quite authentic. Paneer lababdar (Rs 240) however is disappointing. The dish is too sweet, and does not have any distinct taste.

Mutton biryani combo (Rs 350) is competent.

The Chinese dishes are not as strong as the Indian dishes, probably because though the dishes are all Indian Chinese, they are trying to be sophisticated, while Indian Chinese by definition has to have an “in-your-face” taste to it. So the chilly chicken (Rs 270) is nice but a bit tame, as are the veg Hakka noodles (Rs 150), and broccoli, baby corn and mushrooms in hot garlic sauce (Rs 250). Some Indian tadka wil certainly elevate these dishes.

The Brownie (Rs 140 for 2 pcs) is a great dessert, as sinful as it should be.

                               Chocolate Brownies

For Foodies is worth trying, especially for the fish tikka, bhuna gosht, dal makhni and of course the brownie in the end.
