Though Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are two different states now, there is huge confusion about which dish belongs to which region. But the food of costal Andhra, both sides of the border, is tangy and spicy, making it my favourite kind of cuisine.
Coringa is placed conveniently between the city and the airport, making it an idea spot for us to have a quick lunch. One has to take the lift up to the third floor and then climb one more floor to reach a terrace shed and roof garden of sorts.
The place looks somewhat basic and reassuring. I have a feeling that the food here is going to be good and I am not disappointed. Relatively quickly, grilled royyalu (Rs 400) or prawns are served. My colleague who is not used to so much spice starts sweating while I enjoy the hot, spicy grilled prawns.

For the main course we choose more traditional dishes, all my favourites. Gongura mutton (Rs 250) is traditional and deliciously hot as ever. Fish curry or chepa pulusu (Rs 300) is tomatoey spicy and amazingly balanced.

Amongst the vegetarian dishes, tamata pappu (Rs 80) or tomato dal is comfort food par excellence, while arbi curry or chamadumpa pulusu (Rs 140) is a veg version of the superb fish curry, and is found equally amazing by the vegetarian friend of mine.

A meal at Coringa is recommended for the authentic taste of coastal Andhra.
