After reading about this newly opened outlet a lot on social media, I was curious to see what the hype was about. So a handful of Gurgaon Foodie Explorers went exploring this place this afternoon.
This is my take on what we got.
Mutton Kakori Kebab and Galawati Kebab: The texture was perfect for both the kebabs, which they claimed were their specialties. Melting in the mouth, the galawatis were the perfect texture according to my expectation, even though I still feel I have had better in terms of taste. Kakori is something that I haven't tasted from Lucknow, so without commenting on the authenticity, I can safely say these were very good. However, one did feel that the spices used in both the kebabs were similar by and large.
Chicken Chapli Kebab: Little cutlets of meaty chicken bites, these were also good. I would like them spicier though. This was served in 2 lots, the first of which thought this was the better than the earlier 2 kebabs, while the other group thought they had an eggy taste in them. Unfortunately I could not taste from the second lot, so I can't comment there. The chef claimed that even though traditionally a little egg is supposed to be added to the dish, they have tweaked the recipe and no egg was added in their dish.
Mutton Chaap: Mutton ribs marinated (for a long time, I would like to think) and done on a tawa. Brilliant! Well cooked meat, in a basic marinade. It can't get simpler than that.
Mutton Biryani: They call it Yakhni Pulao, and even my limited knowledge of biryanis tells me this wasn't a yakhni pulao. However, this was a very good biryani. Flavorsome and cooked well, yes. Delicate? No.
Gosht Koyla Handi: This was served in a bowl with a live coal inside, which they picked up in a couple of minutes. Inside were tender cubes of well cooked meat in a flavorsome, smokey masala, with some capsicum (I duly served them to my co-diners) thrown in. Fabulous again.
Mango Phirni and Phirni: Avoidable.
Shahi Tukda: Have only if you have a sweet tooth. Its good, but too sweet.
The service was understandably slow, coz we were all gluttons and a sizable number. The ambience was chic and the seating comfortable. At more than 1200 bucks per head for so many of us, even when we shared our desserts, AND a 20% discount, I wouldn't call it VFM for my money at least.
