Kaiser opened at Supermart 1 with a lot of promise, but with the partners separating, it opened, had an event with Gurgaon Foodie and then disappeared in a rather short time. Well the good news is that it has resurfaced at Supermart 2, with equally promising kababs and other dishes.  

Kamal, the man behind Kaiser called up out of the blue and insisted that I try some of his dishes. I told him upfront that I don’t mind tasting but will write about my experiences only if some of the food impresses me. Well, some of the food did, so here is my review.

I started the tasing with Mutton bura (Rs 335) which was rather good and cooked sensitively to keep the juices intact. Mutton shami kebab (Rs 300) was nice but with an OD of hara dhania stuffing inside that was a bit much.

In the main course, Brain Masala (Rs 349) was OMG – you have to be in love with brain to cook it with so much feeling.

Hyderabadi chicken dum biryani (Rs 325; 600gram ) was impressive with each grain of rice being the microcosm of the biryani – something most of the biryani makers have not achieved so far.

Mutton Nihari (Rs 380) was a bit too thick and not with much tar so a bit of a disappointment. Pudina paratha (Rs 50) was competent but Khameeri roti (Rs 40) failed in comparison to Karim’s in terms of texture.

So Kaiser is almost there in terms of food excellence. Whatever they get right they get it very right!
