One of the newest additions to Mumbai’s BKC landscape is Illuminati. Part lounge, part fine-dining restaurant, and part nightclub, Illuminati is a fine dining restaurant that transforms into a nightclub in the evening. The décor inside is simply wow. The interesting use of marble, granite, leather and suede and a colour palette that is both exciting and soothing at the same time, evokes feelings of excitement and anticipation and frankly makes me hungrier than I was when I stepped into this place. I guess that’s what good décor should do in a restaurant!

The food is amazing too. We start the meal with a delicious Roasted Eel and Avocado Sushi (Rs 575). Fresh avocado adds a wonderful creamy texture to the sushi. Prawn Hargao (Rs 575) is cooked just right, with juicy prawns encased in a velvety cover.

From the sashimi section of the menu I order both the options. Tuna Carpaccio with Ponzu (Rs 725) and Salmon Sashimi (Rs 675) are both good but I would have preferred thicker cuts of sashimi.

The highlight of the meal is Fresh Bay Paella (Rs 725). I tend to avoid Paella because though I love al dente pasta, I have not become used to al dente rice which is there in an authentic paella. Thankfully the dish here has rice that is cooked normal with all the taste of paella. There is a generous amount of seafood flavoured well with tomato, though the saffron flavour is not discernible. All in all it is a great dish, suitably Indianised. Crispy Five Spice Lamb with Noodles (Rs 650) is a great dish too. The noodles are simple and comforting, and the five spice-mutton combo works always.

A must visit, especially for the paella!
