Amy Kumar had a cushy corporate life. But like many of us, she wanted to do more. Amy, along with her friend Heena Vazirani, decided to bring her kitchen out of her home to offer some delicious dishes to the foodies of Gurgaon under the unlikely name “Orangezeb”. Being ardent members of Gurgaon Foodie group, they send me a tasting platter as home delivery.
The delivery gets delayed due to their having recently begun so operational glitches, but eventually the food that reaches me is quite impressive. I dig into the Mutton shikampuris (Rs 250) the moment they arrive. Shikampuri kababs are a cousin of the better known shamis and are quite addictive.

I save their biryani for the end, and first check out the vegetarian dishes. Baghara Baigan (Rs 200) and Vegetable Korma (Rs 200) are both pretty tasty and different from the regular run of the mill vegetarian dishes.

In non-veg dishes, Chicken Nizami (Rs 250) is rcommended for its interesting flavours. On the other hand, Hyderabadi chicken fry (Rs 250) is a bit boring.

Mutton dalcha (Rs 225) is a truly delicious dish of dal cooked with meat but the can improve a lot if the mutton is cooked some more. Coming to Mutton biryani (Rs. 275), it is impressive though not really authentic Charminar stuff. The biryani is different from Awadhi version, because it is not understated, but has more punchy flavours. The quality of the long grain rice is an added plus.

The accompanying Mirchi ka salan along with raita and salad go very well with it. I end the meal with a melt in the mouth Double ka meetha (Rs 100) is great too.

Though I must say I do not care much for the name Orangezeb, but the food shows promise. If they maintain this quality and consistently deliver on it, they are bound to do well.
