I like visiting Pizza Express because even their average dishes taste good due to the quality of the ingredients used, which is always top notch. I am back here at their invitation to try out new additions to their menu.

The interiors are functional and the service slick. I start by tasting Cicheti with Emilgrana cheese (a younger version of Parmesan) and Mushroom dips (Rs 100). Cichetis are the little dishes traditionally served in the hidden local bars of Venice and this cheesy dip goes well with the dough balls served. Next on the table is Antipasto Verde (Rs 525), an assorted veg platter with antipasto, roasted tomatoes, rocket and peppadew, fresh buffalo mozzarella served along with basil pesto, pesto rosso and dough sticks. Peppadew, the sweet piquanté peppers grown in the Limpopo province of South Africa fascinates me with its taste and I just can’t get enough of it.

For me the star of the lunch is Spiedini di Gambero (Rs 450), or prawns and chilli skewers served with watermelon, olives, and rocket leaves. The prawns are of great quality and cooked to perfection, making them a delight to eat.

Poached Pear and Goats cheese salad (Rs 495) is served on a bed of crispy rocket topped with pears poached in red wine, goat’s cheese, pine kernels and Emilgrana crisp. It is a good salad.

One of the new kid on the block pizzas is Salcicia e Pomodoro (Rs 575), a classic pizza prepared with Pomodoro sauce, chilli and fennel pork sausages baked with mozzarella cheese and finished with fresh chopped parsley. While the amazing crust continues to delight in all the pizzas here, I am not sure if this is the best. Among the pastas, I try Linguine Ai Gambero a Pesto Rosso (Rs 465) which is linguine pasta tossed with crispy garlic flakes, tangy pesto rosso, prawns, white wine, and finished with parsley and emilgrana, is nice, though a bit too sour for my taste.

Their Cheesecake with Vanilla gelato (Rs 340) never fails to impress and this time is no exception. It rounds off a good meal.

Pizza Express serves some great dishes, and is among the best pizzerias in town. I look forward to more new dishes coming in.
