Cicchetti by Mr Beans is the latest entrant at Cyber Hub, and we have been invited here for a tasting session. The place claims to serve “modern Italian” cuisine, which essentially is the chef’s interpretation of the cuisine to suit the way she would like the dishes. The interiors have a pleasing European fine dine touch to them, and the bar is well stocked.

We start with a fresh and creamy Burrata with asparagus and basil foam (Rs 585) which sets the palate ready for a fine meal. Smoking cranberry jalapeno cream cheese dome (Rs 525) makes a dramatic entry next with the dome uncovering and revealing some restaurant made cream cheese, along with the accompaniments. The taste however does not live up to the presentation and the cream cheese is comforting at best.

The next dish to be tried is the French iconic dish Coq Au Vin (Chicken in red wine sauce; Rs 675). While the dish is pleasing, it is not coq au vin. Though the dish has bacon, what is sorely lacking is the delightful smokiness of bacon and the freshness of parsley in the sauce. There is too little of the sauce anyways which gets lost in the mashed potatoes the dish is laid over.

Old school Parmesan Ice cream with heirloom tomatoes and prosciutto (Rs 550) is my favourite dish of the day, with a wonderful savoury Parmesan ice cream. The savoury ice cream is addictive and defines moreish.

Spinach Ricotta Gnudi with Meat Ragout (Rs 675) is made well, with a good ragu. Gnudi for the uninitiated is very much like gnocchi but with a ricotta filling instead of potato. Goth Aglio Olio (Rs 550) however is just about OK. The Goth here is black linguine with charcoal which adds nothing to the taste.

In desserts, Lemon Tiramisu (Rs 525) is a deconstructed tiramisu. The dish does not work simply because tiramisu is one dessert that should not be deconstructed. The whole magic of this dessert is in the layers which are sadly missing here. Vanilla Bean Panacotta with raspberry Sorbet (Rs 450) is more enjoyable.

The food at the restaurant is mixed bag. While the positives are clearly the interiors and the sheer freshness of the ingredients, the dishes, especially the inventive ones can be a mixed bag. Go with Burrata, Parmesan ice-cream and Gnudi.
