Chef Manu Chandra’s forays into NCR are by and large a pale shadow of his originals at Bangalore. Monkey Bar has funky interiors but unimpressive food (read http://gurgaonfoodie.com/review/exciting-interiors-unimpressive-food.html) and Fatty Bao has very noisy interiors with uncomfortable seating. The menu here is exciting but the chef making the non-vegetarian food especially is not able to recreate the taste of the dishes of what Manu Chandra has done in Bangalore.

Here is a peak at what we had. On the vegetarian side, Green Mango and Papaya salad (Rs 225) is simple, spicy and tangy. Baked Wonton Cups (Rs 225) with a filling of mushrooms, corn and water chestnuts is pleasant and has a lot of textures.

Lotus root in Thai red curry (Rs 345) with Sticky Jasmine rice (Rs 150) is impressive. After a long time I taste a vegetarian Thai curry that does not compromise on the umami factor.

On the carnivore side, the story is a bit different. Pan seared Scallops (Rs 665), the dish I have been most looking forward to tasting, has been overcooked to death. Fatty Bao Tuna Tartare (Rs 395) has no taste or texture of tuna, maybe because of it staying frozen for far too long, or maybe the quality of the fish itself.

Just as I am losing hope for getting a decent non-veg dish, in comes Chasu Ramen (Rs 495), which is simply superb. Great flavour, right amount of creaminess and lovely ramen noodles inside.

Overall the lunch disappoints me. If you do go there, be prepared for uncomfortable seating and very noisy interiors. Order the veg food, that they do well, but in non-veg food, stick to the chasu ramen.
