Quirky and Interesting

Café Nemo is housed in a yellow bungalow in Worli village where its multiple spaces have been made seamless so that it does not look like a bungalow. It has a bar area with folding tables, two dining rooms and a private event area. The décor is modern minimal with the centerpiece of the decor is a wall that looks different on every visit. Add to it high ceilings, a section with hand mirrors and flooring like a chessboard, the café has a certain quirky elegance to it.

I start with Pink Cadillac (Rs 537), which is actually a maroon tequila based drink and quite ordinary.

For starters, we start with Vietnamese Rice Paper rolls (Rs 286) which are just right and rather nice. Miso Dumpling Soup with prawns and scallions (Rs 242) is also made well and is recommended.

Nachos with avocado and beans dip (Rs 364) is a veg treat, especially the dip. Beef Bulgogi and Char Siu Baos (Rs 399) are ordinary and disappointing.

But the disappointment here changes to deliciousness with Prawn and Scallion Gyoza (Rs 399) which are superb, among the best I have had. Potato Bravas (Rs 286), obviously vegetarian is a good aloo.

I have had much better and fresher tasting Crab Cakes (Rs 399) before but the dish here is competent and quite edible. In the mains, the Veg Seoul Bowl (Rs 537) is simply superb with its varying textures and a strong umami character. It is must-try dish here.

A stark contrast is Jungle Crab Curry (Rs 537) which is basically a disaster zone. It is basically Thai red curry. The crab is not fresh, and the curry has no connection with the north Thailand classic Jungle curry.

Café Nemo is a quaint new restaurant, with food ranging from superb to below par. But it is well worth a visit for their gyozas and Seoul bowls.
