Real taste of Hyderabad

I had a meeting at Lingampally, a suburb of Hyderabad and it was lunch time so obviously I was hungry. So I asked the distributor who I was meeting where his salesmen went for lunch. Without hesitation he said Kaveri, which I later found out was the place here for a humble lunch.

So I decided to go there along with my team for lunch. Mutton curry rice is what this place is famous for, but I also noticed some unusual items in the menu like mutton bones curry priced really cheap, mutton head (unfortunately they had run out of it) and Emu fry and of course I ordered them.

The service was lightening quick and food arrived really hot. The first to arrive was food for the vegetarians. While Paneer Butter Masala (Rs. 110) did not look at all inviting, Dal Tadka (Rs. 100) looked and tasted morish. The maida Chapathi (Rs. 20) was average.

(Rs. 150) was next on the table. Since I am not too fond of biryani, I skipped it though looking at the relish and emptiness with which it was devoured by the team and the fact that most of the restaurant was having just that, it must have been great.

The dishes that I ordered start coming next. First to arrive is the fantastic Mutton Bones Curry (Rs. 70), ridiculously cheap and really delicious. So good that the star of the restaurant, Mutton Curry (Rs. 110) is eclipsed by it.

Fish Fry (Rs. 140) is crisp and soft inside – and comes with lots of green chillies. Emu Fry (Rs. 80), the other new thing I had ordered proves to be challenging though. I find it too tough for me and give up after three attempts to enjoy it with three different pieces. The accompanying Jawari Roti (Rs. 12) is great though.

I really enjoy my meal here. And I have found that finally the people toiling on the streets always know where the best food can be found!
