Simple yet Delicious Navratri menu

I have been a fan of SBOW food otherwise and have been a regular to their place ever since they opened. So I was interested when a request to preview their Navratra food came up though the name of Soda Bottleopenerwala does not come to your mind when you think of think of options for Navratra food. Yet I was in for a surprise as they dished out such good delights one after the other.

Ambience is the same quirky décor that they have. Service is as quick as it gets, warm and friendly too. They have a special menu for Navratri, which can be ordered as a la carte or as a combo. Menu provides you with ample choice to pick.

I fast during Navratras and for me, the food during this time has to be simple, satvik as they say. So the more obvious choices in the market, which have scrupulous amounts of tomato gravies and oil floating on top is something that just does not fit the ambit of vrat ka khana.

For starters, we started off with regular Sabudana Papad – fried to perfection. Next item was Gwarfali cutlet – this was a complete winner for me. Adequately stuffed and crisp outer and soft inside. Kera Na cultlet (raw banana cutlet) was gooey inside and crisp outside.

Mains were served in a tiffin which had sama rice, khattu meethu kaddu (sweet and sour pumpkin); aloo subzi with kuttu poori served on the side.

The rice were flavorful and fragrant, kaddu was a showstopper – absolutely delish and aloo – simple yet yummy. I missed having curd / raita as part of the meal, that would have taken away the dry feeling one gets while having rice.

Now the most awaited part of any meal for me – the desserts. They have Sabudana kheer and Vrat ka Falooda. Kheer was awesome with phirnee like consistency and sprinkled with some mango pieces. Falooda was interestingly served in a cutting chai glass, had kulfi, chia seeds and quintessential rooh afza.

A good option for those who don’t want heavy, laden with spices kind of food when fasting.

Must try.
