I love playing with my food, and love tasting others’ experiments, even though there is a risk of the experimentation not really working out. So when the energetic and effervescent Inderjit Banga, the owner of Pirates of Grill (POG) and Prankster invites me to come taste his new experimentation, I quite eagerly accept. I arrive at Pirates of the Grill which is buzzing with activity and am joined by the young and prolific chef and brand head of Prankster, Harangad Singh (who has put together this innovative menu along with Rajeev Khullar of POG), and soon by Inderjit.

The idea behind this festival is to introduce some fun and freshness in the ever popular eating experience of POG, and the execution seems to be in the right direction. We start with progressive chaat tacos with tamarind elaichi curd which is essentially a papdi chaat with a hard taco replacing the papdi. It is an enjoyable dish but the texture and bite of hard tacos are not crisp and crumbly enough to complete the chaat experience. The filling inside is enjoyable though.

Next on the table is a mutton tawa biryani topped with burrani raita mousse. The biryani is more like a homemade pulao and is nice. It is served in a hard taco, giving a feel of biryani with papad and burrani raita.

Grilled barbeque sausage with oregano mayo has chicken sausages cooked in tamarind chutney infused barbeque sauce in bun tacos, and is fun to eat.

Peanut butter tarkari vegetable with homemade bun is rather tasty and unique. I have never combined peanut butter with sabji and it works well. Pepper chicken samosa served with black pepper sauce works beautifully. We end the meal with chocolate tacos served on vanilla icecream, grilled banana with toffee sauce where the star is the banoffee inside.

The new dishes being served at POG are bound to an interesting experience for any foodie. I look forward to seeing much more innovation from Inderjit Banga’s restaurants.
