I must say I am a bit apprehensive about food when it comes to traveling to Ahmedabad. One, I prefer non-veg food, and two, I am not very keen on my dal, kadhi and veggies tasting sweet when they are meant to be savoury. So when I realised I had to go to Ahmedabad, I started doing research in earnest with Zomato menus. A Chinese restaurant named Nanjing catches my fancy because of their menu, and so I land up there for lunch.

I asked the maître de about how come there is literally an oasis in the desert here and he shares that this is the same group than has three other brands namely Ling Pavilion and Nanking in Mumbai (also Delhi), and Canton Spice at Gurgaon. Food here, as I am soon to discover is simply superb. I really hope this restaurant survives since it has only one more table occupied, but the maître de is confident that Ahmedabad too has many foodies in search of authentic Chinese food.

I start with a piquant Seafood Hot & Sour Soup (Rs 200) and since I have requested for an extra hot soup, I am sweating in no time. The soup really hits the spot. Blasting Prawns (Rs 400), which is a grilled prawn dish in spicy dryish gravy comes next. Here the prawns have been cooked to perfection and is at its juiciest best.

For the main course I choose Stewed Meatballs (Rs 350) with Pan Fried Noodles Veg (Rs 300). These dishes are done better at their other branches. The meatballs have excellent gravy with whole garlic and mushrooms but the meatballs are not as soft and spongy as they should be. Also the pain fried noodles, though tasty, did not have those crispy burnt noodles that make this dish so tasty.

I really hope this restaurant does well, because this is the place I will be coming to whenever in Ahmedabad.
