In a perpetual mood for good fish thali, we decided to go to one tried and tested restaurant by many locals in Goa. Off the Bombay-Goa highway in a lane at Mapusa, you have to either be living in Goa or be a serious foodie to know of Spice Goa. And this is the place that dishes out some great food….but there is a catch. Come anytime here – lean season or peak season, there is a wait. So it was for us, but with three of us stationed on three different floors waiting for a table to get free, we finally got our table in 20 odd minutes.
And we ordered the Fish Curry Thali (Rs 238). And we patiently waited for it to arrive. As we waited we rubbernecked and salivated over the thalis going to other tables, till our thali came. And man it was well worth the wait.
A large thali had an amazing prawn curry, and equally delicious crab masala, kismur (dried prawns dish), tisrya (clams), beans, salad, kokum rassa and of course rice. The thali has to be eaten to be believed.
Every dish was marvelous. A must for every foodie bucket list.
We ended the meal with the traditional serradura (Rs 125), a simple combination of whipped cream and crumbled Marie biscuit. The name serradura is a Portuguese word for “sawdust”, which refers to the way the biscuits look in the pudding, as they are crushed very fine into crumbs. Though it sounds simple, it tastes pretty good!
