Zomato rates Black Sheep Bistro (BSB) at a whopping 4.9, making it the top restaurant in Goa. And this time Zomato has got it right. With superb food and drinks, the best service in Goa and a location that is an old Panjim bungalow, BSB is a must go to every time one is in Goa.

We land up here delayed due to being stuck in a jam, but the hostess is gracious and has been holding on to our table, despite the queue outside. John, the server assigned to us is one of the very few servers I have seen who seem to love their job and enjoy taking care of guests. His ever smiling face and prompt service adds to the BSB experience.

The starting point is a cocktail called The Paan (Rs 290) with fresh betelnut leaf, anise, gin, vodka, sugar, and lime. It is paan in a liquid form with a pleasant buzz to it. In starters, inspired chorizo pav (Rs 300) with Goan chorizo, caramelized onions, dark chocolate shavings, and homemade poi (Goan pao) is truly inspired. The pairing of dark chocolate shavings with chorizo really works making it a delicious bite.

Ceviche (Rs 400) is fresh and very tasty. Fish cakes (Rs 320) are desified and enjoyable, though I would have preferred the spongy Thai version to this fish tikki.

Squid prawn plancha (Rs 400) garlic, chilly, garlic aioli has perfectly cooked crustaceans with a good kick to them. Green salad (Rs 250) with assorted greens, cherry tomatoes, blue cheese, diced arparagus, basil, parsley, and green herb dressing is expertly put together and is great as an accompaniment.

In mains, seared chicken (Rs 400) Brazilian spice rub, crispy gnocchi, and coastal salsa drizzle is made well. Hainanese style Fish rice (Rs 400) is comfort food at its best.

Spaghetti basil pesto with chicken (Rs 390) has the perfect pesto. The only disappointment is shark (Rs 500) cooked sous vide, prawn shell sauce and sautéed ridge gourd which is too dry to be sous vide cooked. However when I point it out to John, the hostess apologises for the same and they knock it off the bill despite my having been through more than half of the portion.

We end the meal with decadently delicious churros (Rs 190) with dark chocolate drizzle sauce and warm date cake (Rs 275), followed by a superb double espresso (Rs 160).

I have no hesitation in recommending this jewel in Goa’s crown to anyone visiting Goa.
