My friends and I often find ourselves at Galleria hunting for lunch. Having been to almost all places there, we decided on Delhicacy which was long on our ever increasing list of places to try.

At first look, it’s a tiny place like most others in Galleria, quirky décor, and a wee bit unkempt look, maybe by design. The cuisine specializes in Delhi chaat and delicacies, hence the name.

We start with a Masala Shikhanji (Rs 70). Hardly anyone gets this simplest drink right, but they did with the correct proportions of lemon, sugar and masala. Next we ordered a Bhalla Papri chat (Rs 80), it came with soft bhallas and topped with kachalu, crunchy & scrumptious, only it was quite sweet and maybe needs a bit more tangy balance. We polish it off in within a minute!

Next is my all-time favourite, Matar-kulcha (Rs 80), I avoid this in restaurants because everyone serves the same bread-like kulcha but here I’m thrilled to find the authentic kulcha which the street-carts keep. Usually, this is a dish which is best made by the street-carts but here the matar is more delicious and way more hygienic than the roadside versions I keep eating. There is a sweet chutney too with it, which somehow goes with the dish.

We are totally stuffed by this time but have already ordered Alu tikki (Rs 70). It’s a deep fried version which tastes good but again the chutneys are too sweet, I ask for more green chutney and mix it in and then it tastes fine.

Portions are well-sized and pricing is very reasonable for a sit-down place in Galleria. For 3 dishes and 2 drinks, our bill was under Rs 400. Service was a tad slow with almost all tables occupied but we didn’t mind and chatted with the friendly owner who himself was serving the tables.

So next time you are in Galleria, and looking for desi flavours for a quick bite or takeaway, this can be a great option. I know I will be back soon, there’s a long menu to try and Matar-kulcha to take away !
