Prasanto Roy discovered an authentic Chinese restaurant or canteen actually attached to a guest house on Golf Course Road, and wrote about it on Gurgaon Foodie. Obviously we had to try it. So we “raiders of the lost arcs” admins namely Shefali, Shivendu and I land up here today for lunch.

The canteen is quite minimalistic and the Indian staff here is rather friendly. The menu is extensive and there is also a lunch buffet for Rs 600 that looks too Chinese authentic and we unanimously decide to give it a miss. After studying the menu quite deeply, we zero in on the order, which arrives freshly prepared without much of a wait.

The first dish to arrive is my favourite Mapo Tofu (Rs 480). The taste is great and so is the authentic flavor is all there. The only place where it loses out to Mapo Tofu at Hahn’s kitchen was the amount of pork mince in it in proportion to the tofu. The accompanying steamed rice (Rs 300) though is overpriced and lumpy.

Sonabridge braised pork with soy sauce (Rs 720) is a decadent dish that all of us enjoy. The belly is cooked beautifully with mouthfuls of pork delighting all our senses, and the green crisp broccoli providing an excellent counterpoint to the sinful, soft and yielding pork.

Spicy and salty prawns (Rs 860) is a dish none of us understand. Here we have prawns that have been deep fried with the shells on. We don’t enjoy the fried shells nor do we enjoy the deep fried prawns, and are rather disappointed with the dish.

The tenderloin noodles (Rs 300) are great (though Shefali finds it bland, Shivendu and I find the broth giving a nice depth to the dish).

I definitely want to go back and try out many other dishes that are there on the menu waiting to be ordered. While ordering in from a menu that is unfamiliar can be risky, the good dishes more than make up for the disappointing ones.
