Neung Roi is one of my all-time favourite restaurants. So when I got an invitation to dine here, of course I went running. Radisson Blu which houses the restaurant has been going through a bit of a rough time because of the liquor ban on account of it being on the highway, and it looks like they are making up for it by dishing some spectacular food here.

I land up here at the appointed hour and am joined by Ritul Yadav, the marcom manager of the hotel. Once seated, I am served the amuse bouche in the shape of an open Calcutta paan leaf topped with peanuts, shallots and chopped bird eye chillies, intended to wake up the palate.

               Amuse Bouche

First off the block is a salad platter which has a delicious Krachai Gab Goong (Rs 650) or stir fried prawn with wild ginger & shallot.a perfectly balanced Yam Mamuang (Rs 500) or raw mango salad with cashew nut: and Sai Krog Moo (Rs 600) which is a toothsome grilled pork sausage with cucumber relish & pickled ginger. Each of these salads is delicious.

Next is the soup, where I choose the classic Tom Yum Pla (Rs 350) with prawns, lemongrass, kaffir lime & galangal. The soup here is easily the best Tom Yum soup that you can find in NCR. Since Ritul is a vegetarian, we choose a mix of vegetarian and non-veg mains. In vegetarian dishes we choose a fresh and tasty Phad Pak Kiew (Rs 625) or stir fried kale with morning glory, pokchoy, soya bean sauce, garlic & pepper; and a crunchy Phad Tueafugyaow (Rs 625) which is stir fried long beans with garlic & soya sauce. In the non-veg mains, my choice is Pla Neung Manao (Rs 850) which is a flaky, melt in mouth steamed fish with lime chilli sauce.

I also order Gaeng Bpa Ped (Rs 800), jungle duck curry with raw papaya, baby corn, pea eggplant, long bean & hot basil. Each one of the dishes without any exception is perfectly cooked and amazing.

                             Jungle Duck curry

We end with the obvious dessert choice, Tub Tim Krob (Rs 350) or water chestnut in coconut jasmine syrup, with a freshly made coconut ice cream (Rs 350).

Alcohol or no alcohol, Neung Roi is the tops when it comes to authentic Thai cuisine. I could not fault any of the dishes.
