One Saturday morning had me yearning for the good old English breakfast without having to slog in the kitchen doing it myself. Remembering having seen the board of ‘Madison & Pike’ on the way to school in the mornings at Nirvana Courtyard, I decided to head over to try out the ‘American All-day breakfast menu’. I went looking for happiness and boy ! I found that and much more.

The place is small and cosy and the warm welcome given by the staff is heartening. The brain child of Sakshi Budhraja, this place is your quintessential neighbourhood cafe which attracts adults and kids alike. In fact while eating there I saw a teenage girl walk in with her text books, order a coffee and sit down for a study session !

After a thorough study of the menu and some tips from Sakshi herself I ordered a variety of eats and set down to the Herculean task of demolishing it all.

The feast began with a Chicken pot pie soup (Rs 195) which was deliciously creamy, perfectly seasoned and had a sprinkling of roasted chilli flakes which gave bursts of flavour in the mouth as and when chewed on. The Chicken French toast with béchamel sauce (Rs 200) came with herbed potato wedges. It was hearty, again seasoned beautifully and the chunks of chicken made the mundane French toast very exciting and interesting. The béchamel sauce was silky smooth and the gentle sprinkling of herbs on top gave it a wonderful aroma.

While on eggs, I decided to give a shot to one more preparation and thus came the Eggs benedict with a twist (Rs 215). These were again had herbed potatoes as a side dish. The egg was perfectly done and oozed golden goodness upon being cut. However I was not too impressed with the toasted focaccia that came with these. Found it a bit dense and chewy.

The dish to follow was Corn, pumpkin, chipotle and Cheese quesadilla (Rs 285) which I was a bit hesitant to order in the first place due to the presence of the erstwhile ‘kadddu’ in it. Somehow could not connect the dots between a quesadilla and a kaddu but was immensely delighted to taste the dish presented. The pumpkin was literally the hero of the dish and was super easy on the taste buds.

The item on the menu that had me drooling already was the Lemon ricotta pancake with sautéed apple (Rs 185) and I simply had to have it. And it totally came upto my expectations. The aroma wafting up from the plate put in front of me was my undoing and I dug in with gusto. The pancake was super soft and moist with the maple syrup and the sautéed apples giving it the right amount of sweetness. The ricotta helped break the sweetness with its creaminess. All in all a totally not to be missed dish.

The Pasta cordon bleu (Rs 395) was created with an interesting medley of three cheese sauce which though good to taste felt a bit heavy. The dish was absolutely loaded with bits of chicken, bacon and ham and every mouthful had as much meat in it as much was the pasta. Since I had had an over dose of cheese-cased sauces in everything I had tried, on my request the chef specially insta-created a pasta in a tomato basil sauce with olives thrown in and this too was bursting with favours.

For dessert I was spoilt for choice as there is so much variety so I decided to try out my most preferred flavours- the Blue berry cheesecake and the Red velvet cake. Both were super fresh and very well prepared and worth every calorie that I was devouring.

The bakery and desserts section of Madison & Pike offers an array of decadent and alluring menu. I could not eat beyond this but have so much more on my list for the next visit already. Primary being the ridiculously affordable and yet good sized macaroons and also the sandwhiches, muffins and cake pops.

All in all a very good meal and totally worth repeated visits which for me will be happening soon.
