The best thing going for Barrels is that it is situated right across PVR Priya cinema at ths shopping complex that was once the place to hang out in, till the happening crowd shifted to the various malls and the more happening places.

If you are in the vicinity, want a drink with your friends (though not really spouse)  and do not want to spend a packet having it, then climb up the many flights of stairs and you are in the right place. The place is just about a year old but the menu is frayed at the edges and the bright colours inside are fading away. But value for money is guaranteed. Though the prices are not as low as some places in Delhi or Gurgaon, for this location, they are most reasonable. Plus add in free beer pints for various promotions on birthdays, puzzle games and guzzling competitions, and the huge TV screen, and you will get a good idea about what the place stands for.

The drinks are many but most cocktails disappoint. The ones I would recommend are Michlada (Rs 349) and the evocatively named Lagg Gai Yaar (Rs 420). Michelada is an interesting beer cocktail with lemon, Worcestershire sauce, soya sauce, Tabasco and black pepper – more like a beer chaat actually, and quite enjoyable. Lagg gai yaar is a concoction of gin, tequila, and absinthe, designed to make you feel happy and joyful, while tasting alright.

The other two cocktails tasted, Charlie Chaplin (gin, brandy; Rs 299) and cocktail attack (tequila, triple sec, vermouth; Rs 299) are not remarkable.

The food menu has been created keeping happy tipplers’ food mood in mind, so for those who are sober, food can be disappointing. The dish named “Is that a burger” (Rs 225) is a burger but with unimaginative filling of meat fillet, bacon, salami and cheese.

Tandoori mushrooms (Rs 275) are pleasant.

Cigar rolls (Rs 225) are quite pointless, though the fish tikka (Rs 425) is competent.

You can end the evening with spicy meat balls with rice (Rs 450) which I found to be the tastiest choice around for a carnivore.

So if you are in the mood for an evening out with the guys and are at the Priya cinema complex, Barrels can be the choice for a good value for money pub.
